How to measure for your staircase
Below is a walk through guide on how to measure your stair opening so you can start designing your staircase, its important to take all sizes as accurately as possible. click the images to enlarge.Step #1
Start by measuring your floor to floor height including the upstairs floor board thickness.
Step #2
Now we measure the stair opening, the 1126mm dimension shown on the example picture is from the back wall to the trimmer joist. In this situation we are measuring from block wall to unfinished trimmer joist so when we come to design the staircase we need to take off each side for example 15mm for the plaster board.
Step #3
The next step is using StairBuilder© to design our staircase, so first of all we choose the design which best suits our requirements and adjust the stair width to suit the well opening. Don't forget to allow for plaster and fitting tolerance. Always be aware of achieving 2m headroom when positioning treads underneath your trimmer / ceiling.
Staircase Tip
The floor to floor height needs to be accurate, don't forget to include the thickness of your floor boards up stairs! Also be aware to allow for anything extra which may effect the well size such as plaster board.
