Billie-Jean and Mark Holden had originally planned to stay in their four-bedroom ‘forever’ home in Cheshire. But, having purchased the bungalow that was up for sale next door, and with the intention of getting planning permission to sell on, they soon had more ambitious plans to build their own oak framed home on the land to become mortgage free.
After visiting a traditionally styled cottage built by Welsh Oak Frame, they were set on building a characterful oak f...
This 1930’s semi-detached property was given a complete overhaul by homeowner Mr Proctor. He describes how he went about transforming the staircase as part of his renovation project:
“The house was old and dated, and in a mess. When thinking of ways to improve the hallway, stairs and landing, a new glass balustrade on the staircase was the first thing that came to mind. Having previously worked in the staircase industry, I already had some knowledge about what could be achieved here with a staircase renovation.” (Mr Proctor)
Excellent experience from start to finish. Potentially daunting process made so simple and all carried out in a speedy professional manner. Topped off with early delivery this morning. Got a text from Dan saying he was twenty mins away so in fact he arrived 07.30 for an 08.00 slot which was just perfect and very welcome. Dan was really helpful and even helped carry everything into the house. Refus...

Supporting East Cheshire Hospice in 2022
At StairBox, contributing to our local community is extremely important to us. This year, we have been raising funds for a special local charity close to our hearts: The East Cheshire Hospice. Based in Macclesfield, the charity ‘is a warm and welcoming space for adults facing life limiting illness’, who take great care of and provide total support to patients and their loved ones.
So far, StairBox have undertaken several fundraising activities including ‘The Ultimate Peak District Challenge’. Most recently, our staff have volunteered to help with the build of the hospice’s brand new Serenity Garden which is nearing completion.
The Serenity Garden – a place of peace for patients and their loved ones
East Cheshire Hospice began transforming their courtyard as part of their pledge to become more sustainable in 2022, creating ‘The Serenity Garden’. This transformational project will see the courtyard become a ‘floral wonderland for patients and their families’. Garden designer Ben Darlington (also known as The Wild Gardener) has co-ordinated the design and build of The Serenity Garden. StairBox staff leant a helping hand at each stage of the process. First, colleagues Mihai and Steve worked alongside other volunteers to shift a whopping 10 tonnes of compost in readiness for the planting stage to commence. Next, Ashley, Jack, Steve and Noel put on their gardening gloves to help with the planting of 1,000 plants into the grounds of The Serenity Garden. This included shrubs, herbaceous perennials and grasses which are now growing splendidly in the summer sunshine! And finally, David and Carl spent a day renovating garden furniture ready for the new outdoor space. The end goal is for the garden to be timeless and used all year round, no matter what the weather.
StairBox colleagues assisting the Serenity Garden volunteers
Hospice Corporate Fundraiser Lisa Ball said: “It was a pleasure to have StairBox employees here for a volunteering day. They certainly had a shock when they saw thousands of plants which needed planting!” “We couldn’t have done this project without them and can’t wait to see the garden flourish. Patients and their families will now be able to enjoy a beautiful garden.”
In May, StairBox colleagues slipped on their hiking boots and tied their laces for The Ultimate Peak District Challenge. Together, they walked the Edale Skyline Route, a 20 mile loop on what was the hottest day of the year so far!
The team reach the top of Mam Tor along the route!
The walk, which normally takes between 8 – 10 hours to complete, has a total ascent of 1252m with the highest point being 622m, so it was certainly a challenging day for the team, particularly in the heat. However, the walkers rose to the challenge and completed the hike, raising over £2,000 which we match funded to give a grand total of £4,180 for East Cheshire Hospice!
