Designing the Staircase
Having purchased a staircase for their home several years ago, Lindsay and husband Nick decided to use StairBox once again for their brand-new shop (Linterior Design) in Wadebridge, Cornwall.
This was a complete renovation project, converting part of an old building into one of seven shops. Once they started planning the layout, they soon realised that they could make use of the basement below and adding a wide staircase for customers to access this space made perfect sense. So, with the help of an architect and the team at StairBox, they began to design the new staircase.
Lindsay says: “Commercial regulations meant that we had to go for a wide staircase and add a continuous handrail. It needed to be practical, but also in keeping with the design of the shop. The style we chose to go with was a square, plain finish as we felt this wouldn’t age.”
The ordering process
Lindsay comments: “We found the customer service team to be very helpful. They talked us through the order and advised us that such a wide staircase would need to be assembled on site from kit form. We we’re chuffed with the whole process; the 3D drawings were a real help and the price was amazing!”
Fitting and Finishing
Once delivered on site, Neil assembled and installed the complete staircase himself. Lindsay says: “We were surprised by how well everything went together – it was millimetre perfect!”
What makes this commercial staircase unique is it’s setting in the shop. Panelling was added on the surrounding walls and a beautifully hand-crafted continuous handrail was fitted to one side of the staircase by a local carpenter.
Lindsay says: “We are very pleased with the result. The staircase is great for our business because it leads customers downstairs and most of them ask what it’s painted in, which is what we wanted. We chose to spray finish the whole stairs in Zoffany Half Silver, which we sell here in the shop.
“I would certainly recommend StairBox to others, mainly because of the price, ease of ordering and faultless products and service.”
