The Challenge
Older country homes have heaps of character, but their layouts can often feel a bit boxed in. Narrow hallways and limited daylight were holding back this lovely countryside retreat in Staffordshire. During a broader renovation, the homeowners wanted to open up the entrance and make it feel bright and welcoming, without losing any of that cozy, rustic charm.
The Solution
The team turned to StairBox to create a bespoke oak and glass staircase designed to become the home's centerpiece.
Instead of traditional, chunky timber spindles that block the view, the design uses sleek embedded glass panels. This lets sunlight from the upstairs windows and balcony wash straight down into the main living areas, making the whole ground floor feel instantly bigger.
For the structure itself, StairBox used premium engineered oak. A thick, solid oak exterior shows off the natural wood grain, while a multipart core keeps everything stable and warp-free over time.
The new staircase completely changed how the home feels. It acts as an eye-catching focal point right as you walk through the front door, pulling natural light through every corner. By designing the layout directly in the StairBox 3D StairBuilderĀ®, the owners tailored every detail before building, blending fresh modern style seamlessly with rural character.
