How do I care and maintain my new staircase?
All of our stairs are sent out pre-sanded but unfinished, for you or a professional to apply an oil or paint colour of your own choice. If you would like retain the original oak staircase we offer a product called Treatex Hardwax Oil ULTRA Clear Natural (available in our Stair Parts shop) which keeps the oak looking as close to unfinished as possible. Apply as a base coat, with a further coat of Ultra (either satin or matt) on top as a final coat.
How do I care and maintain my new windows and doors?
All timber products require routine maintenance, the frequency depends largely on their location and environmental conditions. We recommend conducting an annual inspection of your property to identify any signs of wear or damage. If you notice peeling or cracking on the surface, it's a clear sign that the wood is at risk of exposure to the elements. At this stage, it's crucial to sand the area and reapply your preferred protective coating.
You can also find information on caring for and maintaining our self-finish windows and doors in our Timber Window Care and Timber Door Care guides.
Will my staircase comply to building regulations?
When designing a brand new or replacement staircase, you'll need to consider the regulations, as this may restrict what you can achieve. These differ depending on whether the staircase is for domestic or commercial use and whether it is located in Scotland or the rest of the UK. Visit: Staircase Regulations for more information.
